Kent, OH – Quandel recently completed the construction of a new transportation hub with parking and retail spaces in downtown Kent, Ohio. The Kent Central Gateway (KCG) is one of the first of many efforts to boost economic development in Kent by improving connections and travel options between downtown Kent and surrounding neighborhoods, Kent State University’s campus and outlying cities such as Cleveland and Akron. Plans for future downtown development include creating over 500,000 sq. ft. of office and retail space and a new county courthouse, which will both be within walking distance of the KCG. A new hotel and conference center also recently opened next to the Kent Central Gateway and will share the center’s parking amenities.
The new 211,333 sq. ft. transit center includes ten bus bays with an outdoor waiting area, an indoor waiting area, public restrooms, a parking garage with 100 spaces, 250 additional outdoor parking spaces, a passenger pickup and drop-off area, a bicycle storage area, and 22,000 sq. ft. of commercial rental space. The center, now open and operating, not only provides alternative travel methods, but also acts as a much needed cultural hub for the city of Kent.
