Lower Allen Township Authority
Quandel Construction Group, Inc. was the successful general construction bidder for improvements to the Lower Allen Township Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in New Cumberland.

The work for this project will consist of improvements to the existing 5.0 million gallons per day (MGD) extended aeration wastewater treatment plant. Upgrades to the BNR system include modifications to existing control building and raw sewage pumps; renovations to both the existing primary and final clarifiers; renovations to the existing aeration tanks; as well as two (2) new aeration tanks and one (1) new final clarifier.

Additional site improvements consist of a new RAS pump station, final clarifier splitter box, yard piping, chemical feed systems, site grading and paving; and other incidental work.

Bub Manning Named Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to Bub Manning, Principal, who recently received the 2011 Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC at their annual awards ceremony. The Distinguished Volunteer Service Award recognizes one individual's commitment to the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC through longevity of volunteerism, event attendance, and committee attendance and participation. Bub has been a member of the Chamber since 2001 and is currently a Board Member.

Quandel Recognized as a Best Places to Work in PA
HARRISBURG - Quandel Enterprises, Inc., a local construction firm, was recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in PA evening awards ceremony on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA. Quandel was ranked No. 17 in the medium-sized companies (25-250 employees) in Pennsylvania.

Winning companies achieve the highest combined scores in a twofold evaluation: review of a company's workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%); and results of an employee survey to measure the employee experience (75%).

Using a formula similar to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.

Eric Bull Named 2011 Central Ohio Builders Exchange President's Award Winner!
Quandel is proud to congratulate our Vice President of Ohio Operations, Eric Bull, as the 2011 Central Ohio Builders Exchange President's Award winner. As a BX volunteer, Eric Bull has given countless hours to the industry through his participation in Builders Exchange activities. A strong supporter of the industry and a member of the Exchange since the late '90s, he has been a volunteer for the Education, Outreach and Events Departments. To teach young people about careers in the industry, Eric has been a speaker for the BX Student Outreach Program, and has encouraged other volunteers from his company.

John E. Koury to Serve on Modern Transit Partnership Board
John E. Koury, LEED AP & CCM, was recently nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for the Modern Transit Partnership. John's three-year term begins on in January 2012.

Frederick Memorial Hospital
The Quandel Group has begun work as Construction Manager for the Phase 1 Improvement Program at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD, which is Quandel's first project in the State of Maryland. The initial portion of the overall Program is valued at $6.5 million and will prepare the way for subsequent phases of upgrades.

Phase 1 includes renovations of the fourth floor to patient rooms, renovations of the second floor existing Administration area to additional patient rooms, creation of a new Administration area within classrooms, a new rooftop helipad to prepare for a significant parking garage addition and new elevators and accompanying elevator lobbies renovations.

Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A.
The Quandel Group was awarded a contract for the general construction on the $15 million renovation program for the 78-year-old Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A. that includes creating 21 modern apartments and restructuring existing facilities.

Metro Bank Stadium Named No. 13 of "Coolest Minor League Ballparks in America"
A recent article in Complex.com named Metro Bank Stadium, which was renovated by The Quandel Group, at No. 13 in their ranking of the "Top 25 Coolest Minor League Ballparks in America".

Norfolk Southern Railway Company
The Quandel Group was recently awarded a contract from Norfolk Southern Railway Company to furnish and install a new Geosynthetic Clay Liner System and stone cover for three above ground storage tanks at the Lucknow Yard in Harrisburg. This is Quandel's third project for Norfolk Southern.

Quandel Named a "Fastest Growing Company in Dauphin County"
Quandel Enterprises, Inc. was recently named No. 7 of the top 20 "Fastest Growing Companies in Dauphin County" by the Central Penn Business Journal. Quandel's ability to provide general construction, construction management and design-build services in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland contributed to its success.

Quandel Receives 2011 Award of Excellence from ABC
The Quandel Group received a 2011 Award of Excellence, from ABC Keystone Chapter, for their work on the Metro Bank Stadium project, located on City Island in Harrisburg. The stadium is home to the Harrisburg Senators, a Class AA Minor League Baseball Team.

This project involved providing additions and renovations to the existing stadium and site, which had to be accomplished within an exceptionally strict and aggressive project schedule and a very definitive project budget. A fast track approach was utilized, and the project was defined into two separate phases:

Phase 1: Addition of a new boardwalk, scoreboard and outfield fence around the entire outfield area.
Phase 2: Renovations and additions to the remainder of the stadium, including new seating, new elevated suites, new dugout suites, new club seating and new concession and food service courts.

Quandel Named a Top 100 Construction Management Firm by ENR
Quandel Enterprises, Inc. was recently named in Engineering News-Record's current edition of the Top 100 Construction Management For-Fee Firms. Quandel's national ranking was No. 76, which is up from No. 94 in 2010.

Quandel was also recently ranked as a Top 400 General Contractor by ENR.

Scranton School District's Whittier Elementary School selected for Outstanding Design Award
The Scranton School District's Whittier Elementary School has been selected to appear as an Outstanding Design in the 2011 American School & University Educational Interiors Showcase...the premier competition honoring education interiors excellence.

This year, the panel of Educational Interiors Showcase judges selected 74 projects to be profiled in the August issue of American School & University.

Cameron Readnour Completes Community Leadership Series
On Wednesday, May 18th, Cameron Readnour, Project Manager, graduated and received a certificate from the Leadership Harrisburg Area, an organization which seeks to improve the quality and effectiveness of leadership in the Capital Region of PA. Cameron successfully completed the Community Leadership Series, which is designed to increase community awareness and enhance leadership effectiveness. He was part of the organization's 25th class of leaders.

Quandel Gets Ranked Nationally
Quandel Enterprises was recently named in Engineering News-Record's current edition of The Top 400 Contractors. ENR is a national construction publication which rated Quandel in comparison to construction firms nationwide compiling Quandel's ranking at No. 291, moving up 60 spots from last year's No. 351.

North Londonderry Township Authority
Quandel was awarded an $11.7 million general construction contract to construct a new Wastewater Treatment Plant facility for the North Londonderry Township Authority. The project is expected to be complete by August 2012.

Quandel Receives Safety Award
Quandel Enterprises, Inc. recently received a 2010 Excellence in Construction Safety Award - Gold Level - from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Keystone Chapter. Quandel also received awards from ABC in 2009 and 2010.

Pennsylvania Promotions
The Quandel Group is pleased to announce the following promotions:

Michael J. Hogan has been promoted to Vice President. Mike has been with The Quandel Group for approximately five years and has over 32 years of experience managing construction projects. He is responsible for Operations and Project Management in our Scranton Office and has provided his leadership in managing major projects for the University of Scranton such as the DeNaples Student Center and Condron Hall. Mike also recently managed the New Commonwealth Medical College and is providing his leadership on the University of Scranton's new Unified Science Center project.

Michael Karcutskie has also been promoted to Vice President. He has been with The Quandel Group for 12 years and has 18 years of experience in the construction industry. Mike is currently responsible for business development in our Scranton office. His duties include searching out new opportunities in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mike has worked as a Project Manager on many projects such as the Scranton School District's new high school, Morrisville State College's student housing projects and First Quality Enterprises.

The Quandel Group Named Construction Manager of the Year!
At an awards dinner held on Friday, April 1st, at the Holiday Inn-East in Harrisburg, Quandel was named the Construction Manager of Year by the American Subcontractors Association of Central Pennsylvania (ASACP).

Mike Karcutskie Honored as a Times Leader's 40 under 40
Our very own Mike Karcutskie, Principal, was honored at an awards ceremony held on Monday, March 28th, at the Hilton Scranton Hotel by the Scranton Times-Leader as one of the 40 outstanding Northeast Pennsylvanians who have achieved some impressive professional accomplishments and made significant contributions in their communities - all at relatively young ages.

All recipients were chosen out of hundreds of applications that The Times Leader receives every year.

Conrad Weiser Area School District
The Quandel Group was recently awarded a construction management contract to manage the additions and renovations to Conrad Weiser Area School District's West Elementary School, located in Womelsdorf, Berks County, PA. The estimated construction cost of the project is $17,000,000.

The project is expected to begin construction in late June or early July 2011 and will take approximately 15 months to achieve substantial completion.

Pennrose Properties, LLC
The Quandel Group has begun the rehabilitation of the original historic Steelton-Highspire Elementary School into housing units for Pennrose Properties, LLC. The Felton Building, the first building of the complex, which is in the Borough of Steelton, was built in 1882.

The $17 million project includes rehabilitating three late 19th and early 20th century school buildings on approximately 4-acres of property and turning them into 83 general occupancy units for affordable family housing called Felton Lofts. The combined 150,340 square feet of space in all three buildings will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units in the Felton and Main buildings, a community center in the auditorium and an indoor parking garage and additional units in the gymnasium.

The project will not only preserve one of the most historic landmarks in Steelton and Dauphin County, but will also provide much needed high quality, affordable housing for the community. Funding is provided through PHFA and other public and private sources.

Midd-West School District
The School Board of Midd-West School District has hired The Quandel Group, for the second time, to manage the construction of the additions and renovations to the Middleburg Elementary School in Middleburg, PA.

The elementary school project consists of 49,510 square feet of renovations and 59,890 square feet of new construction. The facility will include new cafeteria and kitchen facilities, classroom and administrative additions, additional parking and playground areas. This $18.5 million project will achieve LEED certification.

Quandel is currently working on the Midd-West High School for the District.

Quandel Enterprises, Inc. Announces Acquisition of J. Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc.
Quandel Enterprises, Inc. has announced the acquisition of J. Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc., of Abingdon, Maryland -- Both companies are leaders in their respective construction markets.

The announcement was made jointly by Noble C. Quandel, Chairman & CEO of Quandel, and Ronald E. Knowles, P.E., President of Schafer.

At the time of the acquisition, Quandel and Schafer were involved in the construction or management of more than $700 million in projects. Quandel was recently ranked among the 100 largest CM firms based on fee in the U.S. by Engineering News Record, an international publication.

Both firms provide a complete range of services, including construction management, general contracting and design-build services. Their projects include public and private schools, institutions of higher learning, healthcare facilities, office buildings, sports facilities, manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings, banks, churches and wastewater treatment plants.

Schafer is a third generation firm that was established in 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland. Consistently recognized as one of their regions most well established and successful construction companies, Schafer has established itself as a premier provider of construction services throughout Maryland and Virginia, and they were ranked #5 by the Baltimore Business Journal as one of the "Largest construction and general contracting firms in the Baltimore Area".

Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU)
The Quandel Group was recently selected by Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), the State's largest credit union, to manage the construction of their new 3-story, 234,000 square foot Headquarters Facility to be located in Susquehanna Township.

In addition to office space, the new state-of-the-art office facility will include a food court/cafeteria, daycare and physical fitness facilities for their employees. There will be up to 960 parking spaces for on-site parking. This project is being developed to pursue LEED Gold certification.

Bloom-Carol Local Schools
Bloom-Carroll Local Schools has awarded The Quandel Group a construction management contract for the district's new $26.5 million middle school project. The main component of the project will include a new middle school to be built on the existing Bloom-Carroll Campus in Carroll, Ohio, located 30 minutes east of Columbus in Fairfield County. SHP

Evangelical Community Hospital
The Quandel Group has begun managing the construction of Evangelical Community Hospital's new OR/Cardiac Care Addition in Lewisburg, PA. The project includes a new 40,000 square foot, 2-story addition and 28,000 square feet of renovations to the existing OR suites. Construction anticipated to be completed in February 2012.

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools has awarded The Quandel Group, Inc. of Westerville the construction management services contract for their innovative New Gahanna Lincoln Learning Center. This unique facility will combine retail and state-of-the-art educational spaces in a new 72,000 square foot, three-story facility.

University of Scranton
The Quandel Group was recently awarded a contract to manage the construction of the new $73 million Unified Science Center for the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA.

The new 200,000 square foot, four-story facility will feature 22 class and seminar rooms, 34 laboratories, 80 offices, rooftop greenhouse for research, a 180-seat lecture hall for symposia and seminars, an atrium, several faculty/student research and meeting areas and a faculty meeting room modeled after the team room at Oxford University. The facility is also designed for Silver LEED certification.

The Science Center is anticipated to be complete in fall 2011.

Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County
The Quandel Group was recently selected to provide construction management services on renovations to the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County, which is consortium of nine school districts surrounding the Scranton Area.

The $20 million renovation program will provide building and systems upgrades as well as upgrades to their current program offerings. The preconstruction period is underway and will last through May of 2010. Construction for roofing and abatement will commence in June of 2010. The construction for the main renovation program will commence in September 2010 and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
