Quandel Awarded WWTP Improvement Contract

HARRISBURG - Quandel Construction Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, was the successful general construction bidder for improvements to the Lower Allen Township Wastewater Treatment Plant in New Cumberland.
The work for this project will consist of improvements to the existing 5.0 million gallons per day (MGD) extended aeration wastewater treatment plant. Upgrades to the BNR system include modifications to existing control building and raw sewage pumps; renovations to both the existing primary and final clarifiers; renovations to the existing aeration tanks; as well as two (2) new aeration tanks and one (1) new final clarifier.
Additional site improvements consist of a new RAS pump station, final clarifier splitter box, yard piping, chemical feed systems, site grading and paving; and other incidental work.

HARRISBURG - Quandel Enterprises, Inc., a local construction firm, was recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in PA evening awards ceremony on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA. Quandel was ranked No. 17 in the medium-sized companies (25-250 employees) in Pennsylvania.
Winning companies achieve the highest combined scores in a twofold evaluation: review of a company's workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%); and results of an employee survey to measure the employee experience (75%).
Using a formula similar to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score. |

Eric Bull Named 2011 Central OH Builders Exhange President's Award Winner!

Quandel is proud to congratulate our Vice President of Ohio Operations, Eric Bull, as the 2011 Central Ohio Builders Exchange President's Award winner.
In 1979, the BX created a special award to recognize the impact that one volunteer can make - The President's Award. Since then, a wide variety of BX members have been recognized. The winners all share two characteristics: a belief in their industry and a generosity in giving their time and talent to make it better.
As a BX volunteer, Eric Bull has given countless hours to the industry through his participation in Builders Exchange activities. A strong supporter of the industry and a member of the Exchange since the late '90s, he has been a volunteer for the Education, Outreach and Events Departments. To teach young people about careers in the industry, Eric has been a speaker for the BX Student Outreach Program, and has encouraged other volunteers from his company.
Eric has served on BX committees and task forces, including the Cornerstone Review Committee, which he chaired in 2010. Eric has also served as a facilitator for an "Idea Exchange" Group, a champion for the Rising Leaders Institute and an education course instructor at the Exchange. In a world where volunteer time is a precious commodity, this BX President's Award Winner has set new standards with his commitment to the industry. |

John E. Koury Invited to Serve on Modern Transit Partnership Board

Quandel Named a Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG - For the fifth consecutive year, Quandel Enterprises, Inc. has been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2011. The awards program, created in 2000, is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal.
This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places to be employed in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. Employers are categorized based upon the total number of employees they have in the United States, 25 to 249 employees and 250 or more employees. The complete list of the 2011 Best Places to Work in PA award recipients can be found at www.bestplacestoworkinpa.com and at www.centralpennbusiness.com.
To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
- Be a publicly or privately held business;
- Have a facility in Pennsylvania;
- Have at least 25 employees working in Pennsylvania;
- Be in business a minimum of one year.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part of this process was evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process.
Quandel will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in PA awards banquet on Thursday, December 1, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA. Rankings will be revealed at the ceremony. |

Quandel Renovating MIQ Logistics' Facility

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, a City of Harrisburg construction firm, will be renovating MIQ Logistics' Cross Dock Facility in Tannersville, PA. The renovations include repairing/replacing 150 door dock enclosures, renovating the facility's office, roof repairs, new guard shacks, line striping, concrete paving and new perimeter fencing. The project is anticipated to be completed in early December.

Quandel Begins First Project in State of Maryland

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, has begun work as Construction Manager for the Phase 1 Improvement Program at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. The initial portion of the overall Program is valued at $6.5 million and will prepare the way for subsequent phases of upgrades.
Phase 1 includes renovations of the fourth floor to patient rooms, renovations of the second floor existing Administration area to additional patient rooms, creation of a new Administration area within classrooms, a new rooftop helipad to prepare for a significant parking garage addition and new elevators and accompanying elevator lobbies renovations.
This is Quandel's first project in the State of Maryland. |

Quandel to Renovate Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A.

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, was awarded a contract for the general construction on the $15 million renovation program for the 78-year-old Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A. that includes creating 21 modern apartments and restructuring existing facilities.
The apartments, with a total capacity of 59, will occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the six-story historic building. Part of the project also includes renovating the front entrance and creating a dedicated entrance for residences leading into a high ceiling lobby, equipped with seating, a mail area and an adjacent leasing office.
A new fitness center will be located within the space of the former pool area. Locker rooms will be modernized and the women's fitness center in the basement will be renovated. A new elevator and roof are also part of the project. |

Quandel to Expand Warehouse for Dial Corporation

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, a City of Harrisburg construction company, was the recent low bidder to expand The Dial Corporation's West Hazleton warehouse, which handles cosmetics production for Dial. The 12,000 square foot expansion includes adding two new loading docks, two personnel exits and adding an opening between the existing processing area and the warehouse. The contract also includes all basic demolition, site work, foundations, structural steel, finishes, mechanical fire protection and electrical power and lighting. The project is anticipated to be completed in late December. |

Quandel Receives "Award of Excellence" for Metro Bank Stadium

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, received a 2011 Award of Excellence, from ABC Keystone Chapter, for their work on the Metro Bank Stadium project, located on City Island in Harrisburg. The award was received at the ABC Keystone Chapter Awards Gala, held on Wednesday, July 13th, at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center, in Camp Hill.
The stadium is home to the Harrisburg Senators, a Class AA Minor League Baseball Team.
This project involved providing additions and renovations to the existing stadium and site, which had to be accomplished within an exceptionally strict and aggressive project schedule and a very definitive project budget. A fast track approach was utilized, and the project was defined into two separate phases:
Phase 1: Addition of a new boardwalk, scoreboard and outfield fence around the entire outfield area.
Phase 2: Renovations and additions to the remainder of the stadium, including new seating, new elevated suites, new dugout suites, new club seating and new concession and food service courts.
ABC Keystone's Excellence in Construction awards program has become the premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the region. This program was started by ABC National as a way to honor the entire project team: general contractor, specialty contractor and architect/engineer. |

HARRISBURG - At the 6th Annual Quandel Golf Open, held on June 4th at Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon, The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, raised over $30,000 for the March of Dimes, Wounded Warrior Project and Vickie's Angel Walk. Each of these worthy organizations was sent a check in the amount of $10,100:
- March of Dimes, whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
- Wounded Warrior Project, which offers services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition back to civilian life.
- Vickie's Angel Walk, which provides a financial bridge for families fighting cancer where it can help the most - meeting the immediate needs of their families. |

Bud Quandel Named Business Man of the Year

HARRISBURG - Noble C. "Bud" Quandel, Chairman & CEO of Quandel Enterprises, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, received the Businessman of the Year Award from the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce at an awards ceremony held on June 8th at the Schuylkill Country Club.
Bud began his construction career as a laborer and then as a carpenter's apprentice while attending Bloomsburg University. He assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer from his father in 1976. Under his management, the company has grown to operate within a geographical area that encompasses Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, New York and Kentucky. |

Quandel Awarded Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, was awarded an $11.7 million general construction contract to construct a new Wastewater Treatment Plant facility for the North Londonderry Township Authority.
The project will consist of a new headworks facility, bioreactor/aeration tanks, secondary clarifiers, disk filters, ultraviolet disinfection system, dewatering system as well as an Administration building and garage facility.
The project is expected to be complete by August 2012. |

HARRISBURG - Quandel Enterprises, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, recently received a 2010 Excellence in Construction Safety Award - Gold Level from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Keystone Chapter. Quandel received awards from ABC in 2009 and 2010.
ABC's safety evaluation program (STEP = Safety Training & Evaluation Process) is the cornerstone of safety program improvements. The STEP Program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The benefits of this program are to have an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs as well as a valid, objective method for measuring safety program improvements. |

The Quandel Group is pleased to announce the following promotions:
Michael J. Hogan has been promoted to Vice President. Mike has been with The Quandel Group for approximately five years and has over 32 years of experience managing construction projects. He is responsible for Operations and Project Management in our Scranton Office and has provided his leadership in managing major projects for the University of Scranton such as the DeNaples Student Center and Condron Hall. Mike also recently managed the New Commonwealth Medical College and is providing his leadership on the University of Scranton's new Unified Science Center project.
Michael Karcutskie has also been promoted to Vice President. He has been with The Quandel Group for 12 years and has 18 years of experience in the construction industry. Mike is currently responsible for business development in our Scranton office. His duties include searching out new opportunities in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mike has worked as a Project Manager on many projects such as the Scranton School District's new high school, Morrisville State College's student housing projects and First Quality Enterprises.

The Quandel Group Awarded Elementary School Project

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, was recently awarded a construction management contract to manage the additions and renovations to Conrad Weiser Area School District's West Elementary School, located in Womelsdorf, Berks County, PA. The estimated construction cost of the project is $17,000,000.
The planned project includes construction of a Gymnasium as well as additions to the Kindergarten, Library, Administration, and Kitchen/Café areas. Renovations will take place throughout the entire existing building including upgrades to the electrical and mechanical systems. This is a LEED project and includes the installation of a geothermal well system.
The project is expected to begin construction in late June or early July 2011 and will take approximately 15 months to achieve substantial completion. |

Quandel to Rehabilitate Historic Buildings

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, Inc., a City of Harrisburg construction firm, has begun the rehabilitation of the original historic Steelton-Highspire Elementary School into housing units for Pennrose Properties, LLC.
The Felton Building, the first building of the complex, which is in the Borough of Steelton, was built in 1882.
The $17 million project includes rehabilitating three late 19th and early 20th century school buildings on approximately 4-acres of property and turning them into 83 general occupancy units for affordable family housing called Felton Lofts. The combined 150,340 square feet of space in all three buildings will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units in the Felton and Main buildings, a community center in the auditorium and an indoor parking garage and additional units in the gymnasium.
The project will not only preserve one of the most historic landmarks in Steelton and Dauphin County, but will also provide much needed high quality, affordable housing for the community. Funding is provided through PHFA and other public and private sources.
The rehabilitation of the buildings is expected to be completed the first quarter of 2012. |

HARRISBURG - Quandel Enterprises, Inc., a Harrisburg construction firm has announced the acquisition of J. Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc., of Abingdon, Maryland -- Both companies are leaders in their respective construction markets.
The announcement was made jointly by Noble C. Quandel, Chairman & CEO of Quandel, and Ronald E. Knowles, P.E., President of Schafer.
Quandel emphasized the strategic benefits of their merger. "Schafer's strength and excellent reputation in market sectors throughout Maryland and Virginia give us a new level of opportunity throughout the Mid Atlantic region", explained Mr. Quandel.

The Quandel Group to Manage the Construction of PSECU's New Corporate Headquarters Facility

HARRISBURG - The Quandel Group, a City of Harrisburg construction firm, was recently selected by Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), the State's largest credit union, to manage the construction of their new 3-story, 234,000 square foot Headquarters Facility to be located on Kohn Road and Elmerton Avenue in Susquehanna Township.
In addition to office space, the new state-of-the-art office facility will include a food court/cafeteria, daycare and physical fitness facilities for their employees. There will be up to 960 parking spaces for on-site parking.
This project is being developed to pursue LEED Gold certification, which promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality
